Local Catch: Yourself & The Air
“Go pollute yourself and the air.”
This saying referring to someone smoking cigarettes is where Chicago band Yourself & The Air take their name from, but instead of going any further with the cigarette comparisons Yourself & The Air describes THEMselves as an ever-changing musical outfit of emotion, ambition, and will.
The group started in 2006 as 5 friends who came together with barely any prior musical experience with a desire to make music and feel better. I feel that Erick Crosby (guitar, vocals), Drew Rassmussen (drums), Jeff Pappendorf (keys)m and brothers Nicholas David (Guitar) and James David (bass) have at least reached some of those expectations as they’ll be playing to what I can only assume will be a pretty large crowd this Thursday at the Metro when they open for nationwide touring band Peter Bjorn and John.
The band’s music has a sound of it’s own which has fans comparing them to the Cure, but I hear more of Phoenix’s Thomas Mars in the tones of the band’s lead singer Erick Crosby.
