CD Release of the Week #58

Are you ready to rock!?!?! and prehaps roll a bit?! Well if you are then you’re ready for this week’s CD Release of the Week.
This week we’re taking a listen to the debut self-titled album from Them Crooked Vultures. Them Crooked Vultures has the honor of joining the list of rock super-groups as the band is comprised of Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), none other than John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin).
I’m sure after seeing those names you are creating some high expectations in your mind for this band. Well I’m happy to say that Them Crooked Vultures delivers on those expectations. What the band has laid down on their debut album is Queens of the Stone Age infused with some classic Led Zeppelin and Dave Grohl’s signature drumming.
I’ve pretty much spent all week rockin’ out to this album and so I hope you’ll enjoy my top three picks off the debut album from Them Crooked Vultures as we feature them on tonight’s live episode of Talk That Rocks at 9/8c only on www.talkthatrocks.com
CD Release of the Week #56
After a great week celebrating Halloween on Talk that Rocks we are back with a brand new CD Release of the Week!!! Aren’t you excited!?
This week we’re takin’ a listen to Julian Casablancas’ solo debut Phrazes for the Young. If you think the name Julian Casablancas sounds familiar it’s probably because it does. He’s the lead singer from the band The Strokes. Albert Hammond Jr.’s been making the rounds with his two solo albums and now it’s finally Julian Casablacas’ turn to shine as a solo artist. Phrazes for the Young is full of synth coatings on some quite danceable tracks. “11th Dimension” sits as as a standout from the rest of the tracks, but not by much.
Lucky for you’re we’ll be playing “11th Dimension” along with 2 more great tracks live tonight at 9/8c on Talk That Rocks, found only at www.talkthatrocks.com. See you on the show!!

CD Release of the Week #52
Has it already been a week? Man time is going faster and faster these days. Looks like it’s time for another CD Release of the Week.
This week we’re taking a listen to the self-titled debut album from indie-rock supergroup Monsters of Folk. “Supergroup huh?! I’m calling BS on that one,” is what I’m assuming some of you are saying right about now, but sadly you would be wrong. The group consists of Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis (both of Bright Eyes fame), M.Ward (who works solo and is one half of the group She & Him), and Yim Yames (better known as Jim James from My Morning Jacket). I don’t know about you, but this group seems pretty super. Their debut album is full of the intimate, sweet sounds you would except from any of these artists on their own, but together they have each brought their own flavor to these songs. Don’t be afraid of the word ‘folk’ showing up in the group’s name because the album’s fifteen tracks expand beyond that defining term.
So tune in live tonight at 9/8c to Talk That Rocks as we play through my top three picks from the self-titled debut of Monsters of Folk, only on www.talkthatrocks.com
